Cathy and Todd reference a recent post by Dr. Alexandra Solomon about how we are doing a better job raising our girls to be leaders than raising our sons to be caregivers. They discuss how to raise whole sons who respect every aspect of their humanity, and how failing to do this hurts our boys and society. They also discuss the opinion writer who wants Dr. Jill Biden to drop “Dr.”, what Shawn Mendes can teach us, and how to talk about invisible labor in the home.

Cathy and Todd,
I liked this podcast because I learned about some of the phrases I use that can be offensive to people – I didn’t even realize that.
However, I would love to hear another podcast on raising sons to be kind. My son is 16, very confident and headstrong, constantly debating me and his sister and his dad – I’m thankful for many of the quality traits he has, but I would welcome how to encourage empathy and kindness in him. I have heard he is better with others than he is with us (in the home). I struggle with how to parent him – respecting his independence yet trying to soften him at the same time. Any help is appreciated.
