Are you the only parent who has to stay at the party or the sports practice? Do you feel like your kid needs your support all the time, but other kids don’t seem to need their parents? Cathy and Todd discuss “needy” kids and why listening to their needs is important today, and in the long run (and they discuss Cathy’s recent blog about this very experience). They also discuss the importance of stillness/quiet time/contemplation and how to can help you uncover the “real” you. Don’t miss their stories about observing the sex offender list during Halloween, the importance of tai chi, and the marshmallow man in the Ghostbuster movie…you never know where these two will go!
Great show. I just felt the need to mention that the “Ferber” method is not just leaving your baby to cry for hours. It actually instructs parents to do just what you said you did. Put the baby down, wait 2 minutes, then go in and let them know you are there. Go out and wait 5 minutes (or whatever intervals feel right to you) and then go in and reassure them again. Go out and wait 10 min, etc. It’s too bad that the method has such a bad rap when it actually is based on science and is quite effective. I wish more people would actually read the book.
your comments are right on. i appreciate you taking the time out to submit your comments as well as listen to the show. please let us know if there are any topics you’d like us to discuss.
