Why are so many children diagnosed with disorders and given powerful medications that may not even be necessary? Listen as Todd and Cathy discuss the epidemic of over diagnoses and how parents can be more aware of what is indeed “normal”. They reference this recent article in Newsweek – http://www.newsweek.com/2011/06/19/mommy-am-i-really-bipolar.html
And their “parent resource of the week” is Square One Organics (www.squareoneorganics.com), frozen organic superfoods for babies and kids.

Cathy and Todd,
You have heard my story. 43 years ago my son was born and took two 15 minute naps a day, as a newborn! My pediatrition was from Europe and said that this is who this child was and our job was to help him live in his own skin. If, as time progressed, he became unacceptable to his peers, then we would consider medication as the emotional challenges might be too great. I had to read labels, use minimal chemicals and cook from scratch. Yes, he had many challenges, yet grew up without drugs. Now he is now a high school teacher, working with teenagers who have huge challenges. He can speak to them because he has ‘been there’ and allows no excuses. Drugs are a last resort, not a bandaid. Would it have been easier to medicate and dull his mind and nervous system? For whom? Keep up the awarenesses. Namaste
