Girls tend to read books with male protagonists (Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid), but do boys read books with female protagonists? Todd and Cathy ask this question, as well as how men respond to female leads in movies and television (specifically their recent experience after seeing the movie Trainwreck, and why Amy Poehler once got mad at Jimmy Fallon in the SNL writer’s room). They also talk about Who’s the Boss, Family Ties, and why IBM and Netflix are changing their family policies.
We also discuss our friend Roman Krznaric’s Empathy Museum. If you’re interested in participating in his crowd sourcing campaign, please click here. We interviewed Roman on April 10th and you can here it by going to https://zenparentingradio.com/empathy/
Lastly we discuss an amazing organization called Allowance for Good. The program empowers U.S. youth to be young philanthropists and catalysts for meaningful change today. To register your child for the upcoming class taking place in Elmhurst, click here.

My ten year old son reads books about girls. He loves the Little House books, Junie B Jones was a favorite in kindergarten and first grade (I found her irritating, but used his love of the books as a springboard for discussions on good/bad choices). Judy Moody is a top contender these days right along with Minecraft books. Judy Blume and her characters even make it into the line-up. I make it a point to share books that I enjoyed at his age with him, and he returns the favor with his favorites.
